About Voyagers Escape

Driven by a love for exploration

Our names are Brett Schneider and Zee James. We are the exceedingly well-traveled and superlative content creators behind Voyagers Escape. The two of us have been traveling together since we first fell for one another more than a decade ago and between the two of us we’ve been to every state, in addition to more than fifty countries in North, Central and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Oceana and Africa.

Voyagers Escape isn’t merely a statement, it’s a call to action. “Voyagers! Escape!”

About Brett Schneider

I was born in Salem, the “witch capital” of the United States, and raised in the historic lobster town and birthplace of the American Navy that is Marblehead, Massachusetts.

An overly imaginative boy, I loved nothing better than to read, write and daydream about faraway lands. I was the kid who snuck into the adult section of the library to read more mature novels. I also asked for (and received) a National Geographic Atlas for Christmas.

The eldest of three boys and the son of an airline captain, I had the good fortune to travel at a young age to such exotic places as Bermuda and Hawaii. I wanted out of my small town so bad that it hurt, and to that end I, at long last, applied myself in high school while working a wide variety of jobs, including but not limited to: newspaper delivery boy, garbage disposal expert (in a sail loft), dishwasher, busboy, gas station attendant, trash collector, Park & Rec grounds keeper and beach patrol.

I attended Skidmore College in Upstate New York, where I was thrilled to be reading and writing as I worked towards my BA in English literature. And as if I weren’t writing enough in my creative writing and other classes, I was Opinions Editor of The Skidmore News.

Using my English literature degree as a pretense, I studied abroad at Durham University in Northern England. The experience expanded my world view in a way nothing ever had.

And while I worked as a bartender (making £3.50/hour) in a part of the world where virtually no one tips, I still managed to scrape together enough to visit more of England, in addition to Scotland, Ireland, France and Greece; where I backpacked alone for a month, sometimes sleeping on the beach or within construction sites. I was in heaven.

Still aspiring to write for a living, I moved to Los Angeles to earn my MA in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California. While there I honed not simply my writing of short stories, but novels, feature-length screenplays and scripts for television dramas and sitcoms.

I was wrapping up the program at USC and working several odd jobs when I heard of an opportunity to tell people where to urinate and when to clap. JEOPARDY! was hiring an audience page.

Soon thereafter, I was hired onto the staff where, since everyone else had been there since the Taft administration, I was the baby. I said, “yes” to every opportunity and was thrilled to travel with the show when we produced it remotely in places like Radio City Music Hall. Better still, my executive producer wanted “video clues” produced outside of the JEOPARDY! set and on location.

From humble beginnings (recording clues at places like the La Brea Tar Pits), the “Clue Crew” as it was called, only grew. Before I knew it, I was producing and directing outside of the state, and ultimately beyond America’s borders.

Following twenty-five years with the show, I had shot segments in every state and fifty countries. I also had the opportunity to meet and record material with world leaders and celebrities like President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and Her Majesty, Queen Rania Al-Abdullah.

Along the way I also met more than my fair share of actresses, but my favorite by far was a young woman from Tupelo, Mississippi, by the name of Zee James. She was like no one I’d ever met. The fire in her belly…you could almost hear it.

Zee shared my passion for travel. In fact, our second date was in Harlem and our third at Mammoth Mountain. Our travels never waned and as I adopted for myself Zee’s practice of spending birthdays abroad, we would find ourselves getting our passports stamped both in the depths of winter (Zee’s birthday) and the height of summer (my own).

More than ever before in my life, I’m focused upon my writing, and together, Zee and I are growing Voyagers Escape so that we can share our experiences with others, and in doing so not only encourage but help them to achieve their dreams when it comes to travel.

About Zee James

Although from a small town, I’ve always had big dreams! Born and raised in Tupelo, Mississippi, I spent my childhood playing with dolls and watching pageants (only to grow up and be in a few). I was athletic and competitive and always gave my all; be it playing basketball, running track or capturing the first chair as a trumpet player in our high school band.

I knew that I wanted more than to work in a factory in a small town. I would watch models strut down runways, all bedazzled in the latest fashions and think to myself, “I want to be like Tyra Banks!” Unfortunately, my height (or lack, thereof) stopped me from pursuing that passion, but as you’ll see I found other creative outlets that would still put me in the spotlight.

I’ve always loved traveling. As a young person, I would go on road trips with my family and friends for church, though most of the time I only saw the inside of conference rooms. Even so, I still got a thrill out of the journey and highly anticipated each outing.

Some summers we would venture to Ohio and visit family and every time, the big lights and the bigger cities enthralled me. My parents had to know that someday I would embark upon my own path. And boy, did I!

After two years at Ole Miss, I made my way to Los Angeles on a track scholarship and to finish my degree in Fashion Merchandising at Long Beach State.

During my last semester, I landed an agent because I still clung onto that dream of becoming a model. Unbeknownst to me, I was being sent out on auditions for commercials, tv and film projects!

I had never studied the craft that is acting but it came naturally to me, and only a few months later I found myself working on both television and movie sets.

After graduation from Long Beach State, I moved closer to Hollywood and whenever I caught glimpses of the Hollywood Sign, my eyes would light up and a huge smile would spread across my face.

Fast forward to today: For over twenty years I’ve been acting opposite some of the entertainment industry’s brightest stars. I’ve also put my athleticism to good use by training and working as a stunt performer. Again, I’ve doubled for some of the biggest names in town and you can find out who, specifically, by going to my IMDb page.

But even with all of the excitement that goes along with working in Hollywood, I was missing something and that something was travel. I’ll never forget my first trip out of the country when friends and I flew to Italy to celebrate New Year’s and my birthday (which is the very next day, should you care to make note).

From then on, I made it my mission to celebrate my birthday and New Year’s somewhere other than in the United States. To my way of thinking, I really hadn’t lived until I’d set foot on a plane and journeyed to faraway lands.

January of 2010 is when I met the love of my life. I knew I’d hit the jackpot when I laid eyes on his beautiful smile and gorgeous eyes. He also worked in the entertainment business and traveled more than anyone I’d ever met.

I’m sure you’ve heard of this little show called Jeopardy!. For twenty-five years, Brett produced and directed segments for the popular show while traveling the world-over.

I knew that I had found my match when our conversations veered towards visiting the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China. And although I do love entertaining, producing, writing and otherwise creating, nothing feeds my soul as much as seeing the world with him.
